who we are
For over 23 years, factory 1 has quietly emerged as one of the eminent multi-disciplinary design/build studios on the west coast.
Working out of an industrial space in San Francisco's Mission District, partners Kelly Scott Hill and Larisa Pedroncelli fuse their collective backgrounds in architecture, fine arts, graphic and interface design to create residential spaces, commercial interiors, furniture and architectural elements that celebrate craft and the expression of form.
our collaborative approach
Our localized and flexible approach is rooted in the belief that each place in the built environment has its own unique microcosm, and by creating contextual work and working collaboratively with clients, community and the environment, we can create the greatest synergy and flow between nature, design, materials, and people.
Our one-stop multifaceted studio - design, fabrication, oversight and project management - allows us an efficiency and precision of execution that is both rare and recognized. our clients appreciate our one-stop approach because it allows us to be adaptable to personal needs and aesthetics, spatial parameters, and environmental conditions with time and budget in mind.
We take a lot of care in problem solving through functionality while honoring and integrating the form and character of existing environments and selecting diverse materials that are sustainable, innovative and locally sourced. We celebrate and nurture the lives of the people who inhabit them. In fact, clients are required to play an active role in project meetings and the project team as present partners in the execution of the work.
why we do what we do
We believe that housing is a human right.
We also believe that everyone deserves to inhabit inviting and inspiring spaces, and that inhabiting calming, comfortable, functional spaces affects how we feel about ourselves and how we approach our lives.
In addition to our work with private clients, we provide pro-bono design and reduced cost fabrication for affordable and supportive housing projects, advocate for housing justice and advocate for housing policy that furthers fair housing to address structural inequities in communities of color, like the Mission District, where we live and work.
